| The Brandenburgerturm has always been the symbolic entrance to eastern Europe and will provide a fitting backdrop as the cars leave on their epic journey towards Russia and the Arctic. After a short run to the Polish border, the route heads north east towards the historic port of Gdansk on the shores of the Baltic. | |||||

| Heading due east parallel with the Russian Border, the route soon enters a world of lake and forest - the beautiful Mazurian Lake district of Northern Poland. Hidden in these vast forests is the "Wolschanche", Hitlers Russian front HQ, its massive concrete bunkers now overgrown by vegetation. We cross into Lithuania through the narrow gap between Russia and Bellorussia before heading north through pretty lake-strewn countryside to this delightful country’s Unesco World heritage capitol, Vilnius. | |||||

The side roads in the Baltic states are invariably hard sand, but beautifully graded as they switch back their way through the countryside north towards Latvia. | Riga Motormuseum is a fascinating place with many exhibits not seen outside of eastern Europe. Conveniently situated next to Latvia’s major purpose built motor racing circuit it offers the ideal start location for the days run north along the windswept shores of the Baltic to Estonia. Estonia is 60 % forest but the roads are fast and open all the way to the old Hanseatic port of Tallinn with its medieval centre. | |||||

| There is only one way now - east towards Russia. A three our run brings you to the last town in Estonia - Narva - and its twin in Russsia Ivanogrod, which dominated by a huge fortress on a bluff above the river. | A fascinating days run north into the Arctic landscapes of Lapland takes us to a remote border crossing into Sweden. Turning south and west now we continue past the huge iron mining town of Kiruna before skirting the edge of the Muddus National Park, home to bears and lynx. Following the course of the Stora Lulealv we pass the massive Harspranget Hydraulic Electric power station before entering the old Lapp market town of Jokkmokk. | |||||

Endless spruce forests line the road as we drive along the flanks of the mountains forming the border between Sweden and Norway to an overnight halt at the pretty lakeside town of Trondheim | |||||

| A well graded road across the mountains brings us to the Norwegian border. From here it is an easy run through the aptly named Hell to the spectacular west coast of Norway at Trondheim. Skirting numerous fjords we eventually arrive at the old port of Kristiansand with its attractive painted wooden houses. | |||||

| The road between Kristiansand and Voss is known as the Golden Route for sheer magnificence of the scenery. As the road twists and turns around endless hairpin bends one is confronted by a breathtaking panorama of mountain and fjord with waterfalls falling hundreds of feet into the clear blue water below.
